On January 15, Hulk and Sakamoto defeated Ben-K and YAMATO in the finals to win the Open The Twin Gate Championship. On February 16, YAMATO pinned Hulk during a tag team match. Afterwards, he challenged Hulk to a match for the Open The Twin Gate Championship, but Hulk refused it, leading General Manager Takayuki Yagi to give an ultimatum, which he would by accept the title match or surrender the titles. Their match was announced to take part in the second night of the event.
