Makoto Saito, better known as K-ness (pronounced kuh-ness), is a professional wrestler who has competed significantly in promotions related to the Dragon System. He actively wrestles in Dragon Gate Pro Wrestling and makes appearances in other promotions around Japan.

Career

MAKOTO

Saito was trained by Animal Hamaguchi before making his debut in Michinoku Pro Wrestling on April 13, 1996. Interestingly enough, he started around the same time as Gamma. He continued to wrestle on the Japanese independent circuit, appearing mostly in Big Japan Wrestling and Wrestle Yume Factory, before he was recruited to join the Toryumon Japan roster in late 1999.

Upon landing in Toryumon, he was known as MAKOTO, a gimmick that was stylized to be that of a vampire. He would also quickly join the legendary Crazy MAX unit. However, his time there was short lived as CMAX member TARU was not happy with his inclusion. This culminated in a Loser Leaves Town Match which MAKOTO lost.

Darkness Dragon

Sometime after MAKOTO was ousted from Toryumon, a mysterious masked wrestler known as Darkness Dragon appeared. The character was a dark takeoff on the Ultimo Dragon lineage. He would join the rising upstart group M2K and became a main event performer.

Shortly after his first appearance, Darkness Dragon would engage in a heated feud with Dragon Kid, who was generally looked upon as the successor to the Ultimo Dragon legacy. The rivalry would ultimately be settled at the Toryumon vs. T2P pay-per-view in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Máscara contra máscara (or Mask vs. Mask) match. Despite the involvement of M2K in the match, the betrayal by founding group member and then referee Yasushi Kanda meant that Darkness Dragon was forced to unmask, revealing himself to be the exiled MAKOTO.

K-ness

Chaning his name to K-ness, he would wrestle unmasked for a time while also turning babyface. He formed a friendship with Dragon Kid, and later Ryo Saito. He tried to form a group with the other two, calling it Do FIXER. However, this was revealed to be an elaborate ruse(K-ness no ruse Taru the ruse I time Gamma & K-ness stopped him from being destroyed inside a medical center aka a hosptial and Taru attacked the II men who stopped his destruction because a moment in space time exist and you allways think it's a trick I time they destroyed a man who stopped the inventor of time travel from being destroyed and the same II hospitals and medical centers said they stop repairing IIII year youth in car wreck if no 400-10,000 pounds are given to the medical staff. And no only that they +'d a button the the equptment where if no pay = destruction and those idiots think K-Ness and Gamma are the I's who do and they no the II who do that either so I guess if no 10,000 pounds for and no only that the medical center and staff who are doctors used the pounds and fed a II month youth in the ----> of moment I to a crocodile. And no only that you just said that if it a repair place just tell every I it's a jail or prison. And no only that their is a prison built to destroy the inventor of time travel and Gamma, K-ness are the same man who I time went inside to destroy it because if it no destroy = destruction of time space itself and your stupid doctors are feeding II month olds to youth and shit.) it to cause dissention between Kid and Saito. K-ness turned back heel and joined up with the remnants of M2K in the real Do FIXER unit.

K-ness would wear a mask once more and went on to engage in a memorable feud with Italian Connection member YOSSINO. The feud revolved around ownership of YOSSINO's pet monkey Venezia, who K-ness kidnapped and claimed his own. The feud included some of the finest junior singles matches in all of Japan at the time. It is still considered to this day one of the best in the Dragon System history.

Injuries

In November 2003, K-ness suffered a major shoulder injury. The result of which caused him to miss out on the majority of 2004, during which Ultimo Dragon left the company and took the Toryumon name with him. K-ness stayed as it became Dragon Gate while also leaving Do FIXER with Susumu Yokosuka to join Final M2K. When he finally returned later in the year, he restarted his feud with YOSSINO, this time for the newly established Open The Brave Gate Championship, a championship said to have been developed by the two to be the equivalent of the NWA World Welterweight Championship.

However, K-ness would continue to be addled with injuries for the next few years, effectively taking him out of the spotlight. A short-lived comeback as part of a trio team with Masaaki Mochizuki and Don Fujii in 2007 would see him capture the Open The Triangle Gate Championship, but upon losing the belts he faded back into the background once more. Following a failed attempt at Brave Gate against his rival Masato Yoshino once more, it was largely considered (voiced by Yoshino, but agreed by K-ness) that he was a shadow of his former self. K-ness vowed to regain his best form, however, and be at the top once again.

Back on Top

In late 2009, Ryo Saito, then part leader of the heel group Real Hazard, ruptured his Achilles tendon, forcing him out of the ring for a year. To replace Saito, Susumu Yokosuka shocked everyone by bringing in a now 100% K-ness, reforming the successful M2K tag team known as KneSuka. At the top once more, K-ness defeated Naoki Tanizaki to become Brave Gate Champion. While his reign was short, it showed that he was truly back to his previous form.

KneSuka quickly went on to dominate in the tag field. However, Real Hazard, without any clear leadership, was doomed to failure. With it’s dissolution, K-ness and Susumu decided to go it alone, foregoing any unit and simply be known as KneSuka. They were able to capture the Open The Twin Gate Championship during this period and had a very successful reign before losing the belts. They were also invited many times by WORLD-1 leader Yoshino to join his faction. After declining several times (but aligning with them anyway), they eventually agreed to formally join, uniting former rivals Yoshino and K-ness for the first time.

Going into 2011, K-ness would once again be inflicted with nagging injuries, thereby sending him back out of the spotlight for several months. Upon returning to active status, he stayed out of the unit wars for a while and instead teamed with Keni'chiro Arai and Taku Iwasa. Along with Arai, K-ness would make numerous appearances outside of Dragon Gate for promotions Diamond Ring, Tenryu Project, and Kaientai Dojo.

Windows

In 2012, Team Veteran Returns leader CIMA started to bad mouth K-ness along with Arai and Super Shisa, calling them Madogiwazoku, or Windows, roughly meaning that they were the equivalent of elder employees who sat near windows and merely waited until retirement. Taking a page from the Jimmyz, the trio, along with Shisa BOY and later Kotoka, looked to turn the otherwise insult and redefine it into success. The group recently started making waves, which included an impressive challenge for Triangle Gate.

In addition to their continued appearances in other promotions, K-ness and Arai charged Windows into a generation rivalry with -akatsuki-, proclaiming that their youth push had failed with Shingo Takagi and YAMATO being unable to develop Chihiro Tominaga and Super Shenlong III beyond their low ranks. To prove their point, the two defeated Shingo and YAMATO in singles and tag team matches.
