Background[]

On September 9, 2019, Noah announced they would run the Korakuen Hall for two nights; the New Sunrise on January 4 and the second night the Reboot on January 5 of 2020, which coincided with NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 14 in Tokyo Dome, which was also on both nights, as part of LIDET Entertainment's plan to relaunch the promotion as the second largest promotion in Japan.

In November 2020, Noah announced that event would be returning on January 4, 2021 to coincide with first night of the NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 15 in Tokyo Dome. On December 16, it was announced the event would be broadcasted on AbemaTV and Wrestle Universe and Fighting TV Samurai! as a pay-per-view's (PPV) after Noah was acquired by CyberAgent in January 2020.

Storylines[]

New Sunrise featured professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portray villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
