Storylines[]
The Resurgence 2025 features professional wrestling matches that involve different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portrayed villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.

Mercedes Moné, who defended the Strong Women's Championship
The event was main event by Mercedes Moné defending the Strong Women's Championship against AZM and Mina Shirakawa in a three-way match. On April 11 at Windy City Riot, AZM and Mina Shirakawa faced off in a match to determine a number one contender to the Strong Women's Championship. Neither were able to make it to the 20 count, forcing the referee to stop the match and declare a double count out. Both women were angry about the decision after the match, leaving Mercedes Moné's opponent for the event unclear. Later that night, announcer Veda Scott said that Rocky Romero had made a decision, and the title would be a three-way with both Shirakawa and AZM challenging.
On May 4 at Wrestling Dontaku, after Hirooki Goto successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Callum Newman, he asked for his next challenger, leading to appear Zack Sabre Jr., who Goto defeated to win the title in February. Sabre vowed to regain the title, and Goto accepted his title challenge.

Konosuke Takeshita, who defended the NEVER Openweight Championship
At Windy City Riot, Konosuke Takeshita defending the NEVER Openweight Championship against El Phantasmo. In the wake of Hiroshi Tanahashi's last match in the U.S. at Windy City Riot, Phantasmo made his way to ringside to pay his respects to him, only to be involved in an altercation with Takeshita. Backstage, Phantasmo reminded of their match in that year's G1 Climax, and issued a challenge for Takeshita's NEVER Openweight Championship.
On April 11 at Windy City Riot, The Young Bucks (Matthew and Nicholas Jackson) appeared in a pre-taped video, challenging War Dogs to a match at Resurgence, with Matthew suggesting they know "a couple of OG friends" that were always up for a fight, saying that would be "too sweet".

Tomohiro Ishii, who defended the Strong Openweight Championship
The same event, Tomohiro Ishii defeated Gabe Kidd in a 30 minute Ironman match to win the Strong Openweight Championship. Shortly after, Kidd's War Dogs' stablemate Drilla Moloney challenged Ishii to a title match. Moloney had previously defeated Ishii in the 2024 New Japan Cup in March.
Also at the event, after World Class Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs) successfully defended the Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship, TJP announced that he would bring a new member to the United Empire and both would challenged Nelson and Isaacs to a title match.
