Six or Nine, originally known as One or Eight is a professional wrestling tag team formed by Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi in December 2021, where they work for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The team works on NJPW's junior heavyweight division, where they are a former one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.
History[]
On December 21 at Road to Tokyo Dome tour, Taguchi and Master Wato teamed with Hiroyoshi Tenzan against Suzuki-gun (El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki and Yoshinobu Kanemaru) in a winning effort, after Wato pinned Kanemaru. Afterwards, Taguchi and Wato challenged Desperado and Kanemaru to a title match for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. As part of their challenged Taguchi and Wato formed a team dubbing themselves as "One or Eight". On January 5, 2021 at Wrestle Kingdom 15 in Tokyo Dome, Taguchi and Wato unsucessfully challenged Desperado and Kanemaru for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. In August, Taguchi and Wato took part in the 2021 Super Jr. Tag League, failling to win the tournament, after a record of three wins and two losses. From November 13 until December 11, Taguchi took part in the 2021 Best of the Super Juniors, finishing the tournament with a record of five wins and six losses, failling to advance to the finals of the tournament.
On February 19, 2022, Taguchi and Wato dubbed their team "Six or Nine", before defeating Flying Tiger (Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask) to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship in a match also involving Bullet Club Cutest Tag Team (El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori) and Suzuki-gun (El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru). On May 9, Taguchi and Wato defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions against El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori. In March, Taguchi and Wato became involved in an angle involving Bullet Club, after Taguchi and Wato saving the Guerrillas of Destiny from an attack by the Bullet Club. The following weeks, Ishimori and Phantasmo began attacking them leading to a match at Hyper Battle, where Taguchi and Wato defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Phantasmo and Ishimori. After the match. DOUKI and Yoshinobu Kanemaru attacked Wato and Taguchi during a backstage interview, challenging them to a title match. On May 1 at Wrestling Dontaku, Taguchi and Wato successfully defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against DOUKI and Kanemaru. Later that month, Taguchi and Wato took part in the 2022 Best of the Super Juniors, wrestling in seperate blocks. Both failed to advance from their blocks. On June 20, Wato and Taguchi lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship to United Empire's Francesco Akira and TJP.
