Ana Stephanie Vaquer González (born March 29, 1993), better known by her ring-name Stephanie Vaquer, is a Chilean professional wrestler best known for her time in the Mexican wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where she is a former CMLL World Women's Champion while also being a former one-half of the CMLL World Women's Tag Team Champions – both in her first reign; she was the first luchadora in CMLL history to have held both titles simultaneously and did so until her departure from CMLL in July 2024.
Through a working relationship between CMLL and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), she also worked for the promotion, where she is a former one-time Strong Women's Champion. As well as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and British promotion Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) due to the two organizations' partnerships with CMLL.
Vaquer is also known for her stints in major Japanese promotions such as World Wonder Ring Stardom, Ice Ribbon, and Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling.
Early Life[]
During Vaquer's childhood, she started to watch professional wrestling on the television at her eight to nine years. Vaquer got inspired in her thirteens and decided to pursue the dream of becoming a professional wrestler, feeling her love for professional wrestling as love at her first sight due to being something she had not done before.
At sixteen years old, started to save money and moved to Mexico to pursue her dream. Vaquer did her Bachelor Degree in International Trade and also liked English and Psychology. However, as soon as she started to train for her professional wrestling career, Vaquer felt that she if had to work in something she liked hence she decided to focus on her passion professional wrestling.
Professional wrestling career[]
Early career (2009–2018)[]
Vaquer began training in Chile for a career in professional wrestling under Paul Slandering, making her in-ring debut in February 2009. However, the earliest known documented matches featuring Vaquer occurred in August 2010 at small events in Chile, where she went by the ring name Dark Angel. On December 22, 2013, she made her debut in Mexico in a match against Heroína in the Arena Coliseo Coacalco. In Mexico, she would later train under Ricky Marvin, Último Guerrero, Gran Apache, and Villano IV.
International promotions (2018)[]
In 2018, Vaquer made her debut in Japan for the women's promotion World Wonder Ring Stardom, wrestling five matches over three weeks from July to August, including a title match. That same year, she participated in a try-out for American promotion WWE, which was being held in her home country of Chile.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling (2023–2024)[]
On April 28, 2023 NJPW announced the creation of the Strong Women's Championship, with it being contested in a singles-elimination tournament and with the bracket being revealed on the same day. The tournament featured Vaquer, Mercedes Mone, AEW's Willow Nightingale and Stardom's Momo Kohgo. On May 21, at Resurgence, Vaquer lost to Mone in the semi-finals of the tournament.
On October 28, at Fighting Spirit Unleashed, Vaquer challenged Mayu Iwatani to a title match for the IWGP Women's Championship at Lonestar Shootout. At the event on November 10, Vaquer unsuccessfully challenged Iwatani for her title. On January 13, at Battle in the Valley, Vaquer defeated Viva Van to become the #1 contender for Giulia's Strong Women's Championship. On February 29, Vaquer in a pre-taped vignette, challenged Giulia to a title match, which she accepted. On March 10, at the second night of Stardom's 2024 Cinderella Tournament, Vaquer defeated Giulia to win the Strong Women's Championship. With the win, Vaquer became the first South American champion in NJPW and the first Latin American female champion in the promotion's history.
On the May 29 episode of Dynamite, Vaquer interrupted TBS Champion Mercedes Moné. The two subsequently stared each other down while holding their respective championships up. The following week, it was announced that the two would face each other at Forbidden Door in a Winner Takes All match for both championships. Before their match; however, Mone was scheduled to defend the TBS Championship against Vaquer's CMLL World Women's Tag Team Championship partner Zeuxis on the June 12 episode of Dynamite and it was announced that if Moné loses her title to Zeuxis, then the Forbidden Door match would only be for Vaquer's Strong Women's Championship. This led at the June 12 episode of Dynamite to Mone defeating Zeuxis to retain her TBS Championship. On June 21, at Fantastica Mania Mexico, Vaquer retained the Strong Women's Championship against La Catalina. After the match, Mone made her CMLL debut confronting and berating Vaquer before both women getting in a brawl, leading both women to be separated, with Mercedes holding both titles before leaving. The following week, at the June 29th episode of Collision, Mone, who was assisting Vaquer's match with Lady Frost, Mone confronted Vaquer before being ambushed by Zeuxis and Vaquer, with Vaquer holding both titles as a revenge from their previous encounter in CMLL. On June 30 at Forbidden Door, Vaquer lost the Strong Women's Championship to Mercedes Moné in a Winner Takes All match also for the AEW TBS Championship, ending her reign at 112 days.
Vaquer was orignially set to defend the CMLL World Women's Championship at Fantastica Mania USA; however, on July 10, citing personal reasons, Vaquer departed from NJPW and CMLL. This led her to be stripped of both the CMLL World Women's and World Women's Tag Team Championships in the process.
Personal life[]
She has described Mexican luchadora Reina Dorada as her closest friend. Vaquer holds both Chilean and Mexican citizenship.
On March 4, 2023, Vaquer filed a criminal complaint against then-AAA World Trios Champion El Cuatrero, who she had started dating when both worked for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). According to the complaint, Cuatrero choked her and threw her against a wall. On March 9, CMLL released a statement stating that they "energetically condemn any form of violence against women and reiterate our commitment to promote a life free of violence and harassment in our staff and attendees to our arenas." On March 10, after a show for AAA in the city of Aguascalientes, El Cuatrero was arrested on an arrest warrant in Mexico City and charged with attempted femicide and domestic violence.
She regards KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr. and Rocky Romero as one of her greatest inspirations to become a professional wrestler.
