The The New Year is an annual major professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event, held by the Japanese professional wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling Noah (Noah). It occurs every New Year's Day on January 1 or 2. The event is held usually held in a arena that NOAH traditionally hosted events and that had a significant impact in Noah's history, with the first events being held at the Nippon Budokan, dubbed the "Holy Land" or the Ariake Arena, the "Return to where it all began", making it the only puroresu show to be held on that occassion. The event is the biggest, and arguably the most important, event of the year, equivalent to the WWE's WrestleMania and the NJPW's January 4 Dome Show and Dragon Gate's Kobe Pro Wrestling Festival and it is regarded as NOAH's flagship event.
Since the creation of the event, The New Year as become available on Cyber Agent's online linear television service AbemaTV and CyberFight's streaming service Wrestle Universe. Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the first years of the event had some restrictions in attendance, following the declaration of the State of Emergency in Japan. Like many promotion's in Japan, NOAH often invites other Japanese promotions to participate in their The New Year shows, including several companies such as Dragon Gate (DG), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and WWE.
