Wrestle Dynasty is an upcoming professional wrestling supershow produced by New Japan Pro Wrestling's American sub-brand New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America (NJoA).[1] The event will take place on August 22, 2020, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.[1] This will be the first event NJPW promoted independently in the Madison Square Garden.[2]

Production

Background

On October 21, NJPW chairman Naoki Sugabayashi announced the creation of their American subsidiary named New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America, based in California.[3] NJPW established a plan to expand into the United States and international market, which would include promoting events at the Madison Square Garden.[3] Wrestle Dynasty was announced on February 9, 2020, during The New Beginning in Osaka.[1]

The show would mark the first time NJPW presented a show in the Madison Square Garden independently, as opposed to partnering up with an American promotion.[2] NJPW had previously partnered with Ring of Honor (ROH), for the G1 Supercard, which both co-produced show.[2]

Storylines

Wrestle Dynasty featured professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portray villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.[4]
