Wrestle Dynasty is an upcoming professional wrestling supershow produced by New Japan Pro Wrestling's American sub-brand New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America (NJoA).[1] The event will take place on August 22, 2020, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York, United States.[1] This will be the first event NJPW promoted independently in the Madison Square Garden.

Production

Background

On October 21, NJPW chairman Naoki Sugabayashi announced the creation of their American subsidiary named New Japan Pro-Wrestling of America, based in California.[2] NJPW established a plan to expand into the United States and international market, which would include promoting events at the Madison Square Garden.[2] Wrestle Dynasty was announced on February 9, 2020, during The New Beginning in Osaka.[1]

The show would mark the first time NJPW presented a show in the Madison Square Garden independently, as opposed to partnering up with an American promotion.[3] NJPW had previously partnered with Ring of Honor (ROH), for the G1 Supercard, which both co-produced show.[3]

Storylines

Wrestle Dynasty featured professional wrestling matches that involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds and storylines. Wrestlers portray villains, heroes, or less distinguishable characters in the scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.[4]
